What to wear to a fall polo match at Myopia

As summer slowly fades in to autumn, fashion expectations change. I’m not talking about the strict “no white after Labor Day” laws, I love to wear white all year long! I’m talking about rotating your closet and packing up your summer staples, ie. short shorts, halter tops, and strappy sandals. leaving summer behind can be a total bummer that’s why I suggest gradually introducing fall pieces in to your wardrobe as to not shock your fashion senses.

Last week I tried to marry some summer staples with some autumn accents as I dressed for polo. I thought an outdoor occasion would be a great forum to try to exercise this transition. Though working with fall colors I kept my palette summery by choosing pastels and stuck to light flowey textiles like silk chiffon and linen. Check out my polo outfit!

It was a fabulously breezy day up on the north shore and the the wind danced freely through the air. The loose chiffon panels of my skirt whipped around with reckless abandon then fell softly back down to my legs. This, creating the illusion of some grace as I made my way across the uneven polo field in 6″ platformed wedges to stomp divots. Isn’t fashion great!?

Adding a little linen blazer to the equation makes this otherwise summery outfit a bit more seasonal. Careful not to add too much structure, this slouchy jacket adds a relaxed yet covered-up element that compliments both seasons.

Polo is definitely one of those sports that is best enjoyed with wine and friends…..and yes, the more the merrier!

Last week there were many great outfits. My favorite took the form of a summer weight double breasted white suit…

If you are creative and adventurous enough, you too can wear the daring hue through all four seasons. Believe it or not, there are a number of appropriate ways to wear white in the winter months without finding yourself on a worst dressed list.

20130913-131834.jpg

Take advice from my fabulous fashionista friend Judy-Ann Hereu who loves to wear white winter suits, or Madame Suzanne Eliastam who wears white jeans, boots and sweaters all through the fall and winter months. Their flawless styling with white all year long just proves that rules are meant to be broken!

This was the worst sparkling wine I’ve ever tasted! But it had a really great re-corking device on the bottle…..so I’ll probably buy it again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This vintage multi color seersucker is a perfect example of a classic summer piece transitioning into fall. Effortlessly worn with a pair of dungarees and an old farmers hat, Myopia polo manager, Mark Tashjian pulls this outfit together in style. Capturing the ambiance and feel of the event, this outfit exudes a country/ equestrian flair. How appropriate!

Giddy up!

Like most people, I look forward to the weekend. But unlike the masses, it’s not because I am worn out from the trials and tribulations from the work week or the stress of family life. In fact, I’m pretty sure that the “stress” gene is missing in my biological make up. I find myself perpetually relaxed, cutting loose and having a great time getting wild regardless of the day. Granted, I hardly ever know what day it is anyways. The weekend is great because it brings me a a whole new cast of characters and a slew of partners in crime to play with. For this reason, I especially look forward to the couple of days of the week when everyone else can join me in my antics. Luckily for me, all of my favorite people all tend to show up to my favorite weekend event… Can you guess what it is?

Here’s a hint:

Did you get it?

If there is one day that I am aware of, its SUNDAY. “Why?” you may ask. Well, Isnt it obvious?!!? Sunday is Polo day! If there were ever a place and a time for all of the wild ones to come out and cut loose, Polo is it! This fancy spectator sport really has it all: tradition, equine beauty, skilled sportsmanship, sexy sportsmen, exotic cars, great outfits and of course tailgating!!!!! My time is usually spent on the sidelines in a cute dress, wedges or high heels, and a fabulous hat, mixing and mingling. Mixing drinks, and mingling to see who brought the best hors d’oeuvres that is! For this post, I thought I might do something a little different and bring you a taste of polo from a different perspective.

20130806-183908.jpg

I indulged this past week and got my polo fix a little early. Messing around with a little stick and ball, these beautiful ponies showed me of the real reasons I love this sport. Riding around occasionally hitting the ball reminded me of the difficulty of the sport. The polo I was playing, pathetically hitting the ball at a slow canter in an empty field, is really no comparison to the chukkers played by the pros. My experience gave me a deeper appreciation for the the level of skill required to play a good game.

With sites set on whacking a little white ball in the distance the player must be focused. In a real game, 7 horses and riders charge after you racing to get get to the ball first. Opposing players yell at you in Spanish and bump in to you trying to steer you off course. At full speed riders stand up out of their saddles reach for the ball with their mallets in the hopes of hitting it through the goal posts. This game is intense! its really quite something to watch. The guys and gals who play this terrific sport at Myopia are true athletes and are a joy to watch.

With another match just hours away, I thought posting these pictures might help get you excited for too!

Another Colorful Day at Polo

Ah, Another glorious day for my favorite spectator sport: Polo.

20130627-121750.jpg

Traditionally played on Sundays, spectators, and aficionados take full advantage of “Sunday Funday.” Opening their gates at 1:30, The Myopia Hunt Club welcomes members, guests, and dogs alike to enjoy the afternoon. Backing right up to the playing field, spectators set up their picnic blankets, collapsible table and chairs and prepare to tailgate. Most guests bring wine, cheese, and other delectable nibbles. If you can believe it, I always bring champagne!

Another week at polo means another delightfully sweet little outfit. This week I decided to go with this fun pleated Ellen Tracy frock and oversized pearls.

20130722-100111.jpg

Half time is my favorite time of the whole match. Everyone makes their way to the field to stomp divots, visit with friends, and make new ones.

pana polo

At the end of half time, the announcer clears the field to make room for the ponies and players to resume play. Be careful that you don’t get stuck on the wrong side of the field! It will can become a very long walk back. Making your way around the perimeter of the field you will undoubtedly stop to chat, eat and drink with fellow tailgaters. An empty glass does not stay empty for too long around here! If you are lucky enough to still be standing and alert by the time you make it back to your picnic blanket you may enjoy the rest of the match.

20130722-100548.jpg

The Winners are named and celebrations ensue. While most abandon their posts, the hardcore aficionados stick around and polish off the last drops of wine. I even got to ride in style with one of Myopia’s illustrious players.

It wasn’t long before a dispute broke out on the color of this Jeep. He called it one thing, and I called it another.

20130722-101818.jpg

Matching Nails, Dress, Lining, and Mallet would suggest a perfect match to the color of the jeep….20130722-101825.jpg

With the help of my Color Aid, I think i found a match, but I’m curious to see what you think…VOTE HERE!
